DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injections in which contain product known as hyaluronic acid, which help restore volume and definition to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance created by the body found in most cells. It binds water to itself, giving skin its volume and plumpness. As we age, the hyaluronic acid within our bodies looses its capacity to store water, thus leading to sagging and a loss of volume to the skin. This is where dermal fillers come in, restoring the lost volume and smoothing lines, and giving fuller lips.

Results are temporary and lasting effects can range depending on product use. The product I use is Revolax which contains lidocaine, which is an anaesthetic, this eases discomfort during treatment. Revolax can last between 6 and 12 months.

The process

Please avoid blood thinning medications such as aspirin, and avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to treatment. This will help reduce the risk of bruising.

Before treatment we will discuss your health, and your expectations from the treatment. It is important to understand not all expectations are achievable as results are not always instant after one treatment!

We will first apply numbing cream to the area. This will ease discomfort from the initial injection, you may still feel some pain

After the area is numbed, I will begin to inject the treatment area. This will involve several injections using a tiny needle. The procedure will take around twenty minutes. When finished injecting, I will fully massage the area of treatment to ensure there are no lumps.

Aftercare

Bruising and swelling is absolutely normal. This can be reduced by using ice packs. Arnica tablets and gel can also help with reducing bruising, this is available from most pharmacies. Most bruises and swelling will settle over a few days, and you should see your final, settled, results within a week.

Please avoid drinking hot drinks for 24 hours after treatment, the heat can help breakdown the filler. Avoid any blood thinners, including alcohol and aspirin, for at-least 48 hours post treatment. Blood thinners increase risk of bruising, therefore avoiding such products can help minimize the risk of bruising.

Side effects and risk of complications

In extremely rare circumstances, some clients may have hypersensitivity or an allergic reactions to treatment. Rest assured, as a fully qualified adult nurse I am trained in managing such situations.
